Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.
‘To seek, to find and not to yield’.
Edward Wilson Primary School aims to create a safe and secure learning environment where pupils feel valued, happy and receive the highest standards of teaching and learning.
The school is named after Dr. Edward Wilson, artist, naturalist and explorer, who accompanied Captain Scott to the Antarctic and resided on Bourne Terrace. Overlooking the Great Lake on Observation Hill in Antarctica, where Wilson, Scott and the rest of the exploration party died, is a cross inscribed with the final verse of Tennyson’s poem, Ulysses: ‘Strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yield’. We aim to inspire, challenge and motivate our pupils, and our entire school community, with the motto: ‘To seek, to find and not to yield’, where the highest aspirations and expectations are held by all associated with Edward Wilson Primary School.
EDWARD WILSON PRIMARY SCHOOL VALUES:
The school has a thriving Parent and Teacher Association (PTA), and our pupils are taught to be responsible citizens and take an active role in our community. Through PHSCE, storytelling and themed based assemblies, our pupils learn about the importance of moral values such as honesty, respect, tolerance, resilience, perseverance and friendship as we prepare our pupils for life in a modern, democratic society.
WE ALSO TEACH OUR PUPILS FUNDAMENTAL BRITISH VALUES:
RULE OF LAW;
MUTUAL RESPECT FOR AND TOLERANCE OF THOSE WITH DIFFERENT FAITHS AND BELIEFS AND THOSE WITHOUT FAITH
The curriculum is comprehensive and both broad and balanced. Teachers take a creative approach when planning lessons and pupils are given opportunities to experiment, investigate, express opinions, be challenged and taught to make informed choices. Edward Wilson Primary School emphasises the importance of working both independently and collaboratively.
Edward Wilson Primary School Aims:
