Wellbeing

Ms Desmarais is the Pastoral Lead. This role includes the Designated Safeguarding Lead, and the Senior Mental Health Lead. Ms Desmarais leads the Pastoral Team, which comprises:
  • Ms Albkri, PSHE Lead
  • Ms Josiah, Behaviour and Culture Lead
  • Ms Lawrence, Pupil Premium Lead
  • Ms Qureshi, Internet Safety Lead
  • Ms Taddese, Attendance Lead

The Pastoral Team meet weekly to monitor the wellbeing and progress of particular pupils, and agree next steps where necessary. Each pupil on the Pastoral Register has a self-chosen trusted adult, who checks in with the pupil at least once weekly. Many interventions and approaches at school are guided by our Pastoral Team. We are proud of the our focus upon the whole child, and follow the principles of Dr Martin Luther King:

'Intelligence plus character- that is the goal of true education'.

We show the same care for the wellbeing of all our community, including staff members, parents and other family members and governors. We are often told that our school is a friendly and caring place, and we work positively and calmly as a team to achieve that atmosphere, knowing it is the way to best ensure everyone thrives.

We are a Stormbreak Shine launch school, and Ms Desmarais has presented feedback on this to the Stormbreak team at their request. Stormbreak Shine is a digital platform to boost children's emotional intelligence, resilience and mood. Pupils take part in whole-class 'Stormbreak' sessions, and particular pupils enjoy Stormbreak Shine sessions on a 1:1 or small group basis, led by our Learning Mentor or a trained member of the support team.

We are fortunate to have a qualified Learning Mentor, Mr Shaw, on our teaching team. Mr Shaw supports children throughout the school and works with our Behaviour and Culture Lead, Ms Josiah, to ensure that our Behaviour, Anti-Bullying and Restrictive Interventions Policies are being followed. Mr Shaw also has training to lead bereavement interventions.

With all pupils, we use the PACE Approach (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy), a research-backed way to model and facilitate calm, non-judgemental and respectful relationships. If a child has made a mistake, a consequence may still be issued in line with our Behaviour Policy, however we aim to do this in a way that upholds the dignity of the child and restores what has been broken- be it a relationship, a learning moment or positive self-belief.

Below are some resources which we encourage you to read and discuss with your children to achieve and maintain a more balanced lifestyle.
