SEND
Our first priority as a school is to become a centre of excellence for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our commitment to this goal is shown through everything we do at school, however below are some specific actions:
- We have three specialist classes for autistic pupils; each has a Class Teacher, two of whom are core subject leads
- The other two core subject leads (Ms Adad: Maths and Mr Bain: Reading) also teach in a specialist class each week
- The Headteacher and SENDCo have professional qualifications in SEND, and three other members of staff are undertaking this (Ms Apostolaki: Interim SENDCo, Ms Boujettef: Writing/Oracy Lead and Ms Ling: EYFS Lead)
- We work closely with a number of professionals within Westminster, including the SENDIE (SEND-Inclusive Educator) Ms Bex Watton
- We are the centre for resources and expertise for children with a Visual Impairment (VI) and the Bi-Borough VI Team have significant involvement at Edward Wilson. Ms Janee Hall is the Qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (QTVI) based here, and is contactable via the office
- 50 members of staff are trained in De-escalation and Restrictive Interventions; we have an on-site specialist Learning Mentor (Mr Shaw), who provides weekly support for teaching teams in this area
- We are converting three spaces into SEND-specialist zones (two calming rooms and a 'big movement' soft play room)
Ms Tully is our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) and during her maternity leave Ms Apostolaki is the Interim SENDCo, who can be contacted via the school office.
