Welcome
A key member of Captain Scott’s Antarctic Expedition Team, Edward Wilson was an explorer, artist, doctor and natural scientist. He lost his life alongside his team in 1912. Inscribed on his memorial is the final verse of Tennyson’s poem, Ulysses:
“Strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yield.”
At Edward Wilson Primary School, we are inspired, challenged and motivated by Edward Wilson; thus, our motto is: ‘To seek, to find and not to yield’. We hold the highest aspirations and expectations for our pupils, and by extension, our staff, families, governors and supporters.
Our school values communicate what we all stand for:
respect community curiosity perseverance kindness honesty

Our mascot, Teddy Wilson, exemplifies these values, which are woven into school life through assemblies, our exciting enrichment offer and all our interactions.
Our curriculum is challenging, broad and relevant to our community. Teachers take a creative approach when planning sequences of learning, and our pupils are given opportunities to experiment, investigate and develop research skills. As well as developing high standards of academic learning, we teach our pupils to make informed choices in order to prepare them to become positive contributors within a global society. We are proud of our pupil achievement, in the top 15% nationally, and our Outstanding provision for Personal Development. With our autism and Visual Impairment provision, we are establishing ourselves as a centre of excellence for SEND and know this means better learning for all pupils: a rising tide lifts all boats.
In partnership with our families and the entire school learning community, we seek to ensure that all pupils:
- are aspirational and ambitious for themselves;
- are enable to access our full curriculum;
- receive an excellent and rich education, achieving to the best of their ability;
- are happy, healthy, confident, independent and motivated learners;
- demonstrate our values and make informed, positive choices within a local and global community.
Our pupils are happy and look forward to school. If you are a current parent at Edward Wilson Primary School, I encourage you to join our growing Parent and Teacher Association (PTA). If you are a prospective parent, then I look forward to showing you our school: please contact the office to arrange a visit.
