Alterative Resource Provision for Pupils with ASD
Welcome to Little Explorers: Our Alternative Resource Provision for Pupils with Autism-Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
At Edward Wilson Primary School, we are proud to provide a specialist Alternative Resource Provision (ARP) for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), established in April 2024. Known as Little Explorers, our provision consists of two dedicated classes—Penguins and Polar Bears—each with a capacity for six pupils.
Our Team
Little Explorers is supported by a highly experienced and passionate team. This includes a Specialist SEND (Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities) Teacher, an additional Class Teacher, and a group of skilled Teaching and Learning Support Practitioners. Together, they create a nurturing and engaging environment where every child can thrive.
Our Approach
We have designed a bespoke curriculum tailored to the unique needs of each pupil in the provision. Lessons are carefully planned and adapted to align with individual targets, ensuring personalised learning opportunities.
Whenever possible, pupils are supported to spend time in mainstream classrooms, where lessons are adjusted to enable their participation alongside peers. This inclusive approach reflects our belief that every child can achieve their potential with the right support and opportunities.
Support for Families and Collaboration with Professionals
We understand that families of children with ASD often face unique challenges. Our team is committed to working closely with parents and carers, providing ongoing support and guidance. We also collaborate with a range of professionals, including:
- Westminster’s SEND and Autism Outreach teams
- Speech and Language Therapists
- Educational Psychologists
- Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists
Additionally, we can signpost families to external support organisations to ensure they have access to a wide network of resources.
Admissions
Admission to Little Explorers is managed through consultations with Westminster Local Authority. Applications are reviewed by the Headteacher, SENDCo, and Lead Teacher against our entry criteria, which you can view here.
